Event summaries are presented here. Links give more detail, and may include a registration request.

Thursday, October 6, 2005 through to October 28

UW-ACE training sessions continue in October with
a look at the Gradebook and the Action Editor.

The Gradebook records system-generated and uploaded
grades. Averages and percentages can be calculated.
Selected grades can be released to students.
UW-ACE is completing a mark submission facility to
send final grades from UW-ACE courses to the registrar's
      office. Details forthcoming.

The Action Editor sets triggers for a small set of events and
conditions (e.g. quiz mark) allowing a number of different actions
to occur: redirection to a page; email posting; calendar posting
... Details are available in the full UW-ACE manual in the UW-ACE
      Help link under Instruction Guides.

IST is offering courses in Maple, Mathcad, SAS,
Flash animation, drawing with Visio, Access database, Excel, Parallel
Programming and automating library research searches.

Introduction to Online Resources for New Faculty
      Presented by Dr. Mark Morton.
12:00pm-1:00pm, FLEX Lab, LIB 329. Please register at the link above.

This session will introduce faculty members to some of the ways that
the Univerity of Waterloo's online course environment (UW-ACE) can do
the following: help students prepare for classes and labs, assist
students with learning difficult concepts, provide feedback to large
classes, create online groups for guided discussions, provide new
options for the use of class time and homework time, learn about the
      New Classroom series.

The New Classroom Faculty Series at LT3

This workshop is designed for instructors interested in enhancing
student learning with online activities. The two-part workshop is held
twice in the fall term. Thursday, October 13th and 27th, and again on
Monday October 17th and 31st. Please register at the link above.

Modeling Multi-body Mechanical Systems with DynaFlexPro

UW professor John McPhee (System Design Engineering) from MotionPro
leads a web seminar on a Maple package for modeling and simulating
the dynamics of mechanical multibody systems. The demo at the summer
      2005 Maple conference was impressive.

nVizx demos

Visualization, modelling and simulation software using Maple

Demos of nVizx shown at the summer 2005 Maple conference are
available at Maple. Wait for the long download to end and then
      replay the demo.
