UW-ACE training sessions continue in September. Six topics cover the basics of UW-ACE, plus the gradebook, quiz system and design features. IST is also offering courses in MATLAB, Mathcad, SPSS, and Parallel Programming in September. These computational mathematics tools, along with R and Maple, are finding increasing use in undergraduate courses.
Our friends at MapleSoft.com are dropping by MC 2009 at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 9 to talk about their new release of MapleTA. MapleTA is a quiz authoring and server environment that uses the symbolic computational power of Maple to evaluate student answers. Please get in touch with me if you would like to try MapleTA.
Welcome to UW-ACE Fall 2005. The starting date for the Fall 2005 term is Monday September 12th. On that day student access to Fall 2005 UW-ACE courses begins and access to Spring 2005 UW-ACE courses ends.
Learning and Teaching at the Centre: LT3 and You Presented by Dr. Liwana Bringelson 3:00pm-4:00pm, FLEX Lab, LIB 329. Please register at the link above. Dr. Liwana Bringelson, Director of the Centre for Learning and Teaching Through Technology, will give an overview of the mission of the LT3 Centre and the different types of projects that are underway to support excellence in teaching and learning through technology. There will be discussion about how you (members of the UW community) and LT3 can work to effectively integrate technology into your teaching and learning experiences. Refreshments will be served.
Introduction to Online Resources for New Faculty Presented by Dr. Mark Morton. 12:00pm-1:00pm, FLEX Lab, LIB 329. Please register at the link above. This session will introduce faculty members to some of the ways that the Univerity of Waterloo's online course environment (UW-ACE) can do the following: help students prepare for classes and labs, assist students with learning difficult concepts, provide feedback to large classes, create online groups for guided discussions, provide new options for the use of class time and homework time, learn about the New Classroom series.
Thursday, October 13, 2005 The New Classroom Faculty Series at LT3
This workshop is designed for instructors interested in enhancing student learning with online activities. The two-part workshop is held twice in the fall term. Thursday, October 13th and 27th, and again on Monday October 17th and 31st. Please register at the link above.
