Seventeen projects have received UW Learning Initiatives funding (see the LIF proposal description in May's event list above). The number of proposals was double the previous year's number and the fund was stretched to accommodate as many projects as possible. The list of recipients is located at www.learning.uwaterloo.ca/LIF/. Two proposals were accepted in the Mathematics Faculty, both, by coincidence, in the Applied Mathematics Department. Four different training sessions about UW-ACE, the campus-wide course management system, take place in June. Other IST courses cover Maple, SPSS, FEMLAB and poster making.
Math Notation with UW-ACE, 10-11:30 AM June9, MC 2009. This is a look at some tools for writing mathematics for use within UW-ACE by students and faculty. Demonstrations will include jsMath, LaTeX and Respondus among others.

The Impact of Group Response Systems ("clickers") on Student Learning and Satisfaction. Tuesday, June 28th, 11-12:30, DC 1304 (not the FLEX lab) Come and hear Carla Carnaghan, Alan Webb and Tony Atkinson from UW School of Accountancy speak about their research findings, their experiences using "clickers", and watch them demonstrate the technology.
