Projects (20%)
Make sure that the main report is complete, since we will be marking it without referring to the preliminary report; if needed, you may repeat material from the preliminary report in your main report. Note that 25% of the project marks are for the quality of the presentation in the main report.
Students are required to work on projects in
groups of three,
and to submit a preliminary report (due Nov. 7, Friday),
and a final report (due Dec. 1, Monday).
The
current list of project groups with their titles is posted here (html)
Once you have formed a project group, you need to decide on the project you will work on. You can choose your own project or choose one from the list of projects given below You need to bring a short outline of the project to H.Wolkowicz (instructor) and get it confirmed.
Marks distribution for a typical project are as follows (some projects may
need to be evaluated differently; e.g. increased weight for
Analysis;
an emphasis on sensitivity analysis must be included):
Preliminary report : 20
Modeling : 20
Data : 10
Computation : 10
Analysis : 15
Final report write-up : 25
Sample projects from the past are available for browsing from H.Wolkowicz (instructor); you may come by during office hours and browse project reports (this has to be done in the office). The office hours are posted under the "syllabus" tab.
Following are summaries of projects that you can use as starting points
for your own projects. Expand on these projects. Collect and use
realistic data. Emphasize sensitivity analysis.
More projects will be added during the next few weeks.
