I am so saddened to hear of the loss of your husband and father. Herb was always a good neighbour to my parents and I am proud to say that I currently live in the Freedman's home where they raised their family. My condolences.

I had the privilege and pleasure of being Herb's colleague and enjoying his friendship for almost fifty years. In addition to being a very nice and truly funny man, he was energetic, a prolific researcher and thesis supervisor. We will sadly miss him.

Herb was a fantastic colleague during my (few) years at UofA 1980-85. It was incredible how much energy he had and always with a smile on his face. Herb definitely made working in the Math. Dept. a happy time/place. I wish the family all the best during this difficult time.

Herb was my teacher, mentor, and co-author. I also considered him a friend. He had amazing energy and besides his own important research contributions, he also mentored many others who have gone on to very successful careers. He also always had at least one joke to brighten up the day. I will miss him. My sincere condolences to Donna and his family.
