How to Complete the Web Version of
Form 100

Read and/or print the following documents before you start completing Form 100:

  • Frequently Asked Questions on how to use the electronic application process;
  • General instructions on how to complete Form 100 and how to submit it to NSERC. You should refer to these instructions to prepare Part II of your personal data form and to submit your application; and
  • The Researcher's Guide for program details.

Before you begin

General information

All applicants and co-applicants for NSERC grants must complete Form 100 (Parts I and II and the required appendices). Submit one copy of Parts I and II and Appendix C (if required) with each copy of the application. Submit one original only of Appendices A and B.

Note: Co-applicants who do not hold an academic appointment at a Canadian university must submit Appendix A.

Form 100 has two parts: Parts I and II

Programs for which Form 100 is required

The Web version of Form 100 may be used to complete Part I of the Personal Data Form that should accompany applications for the following types of support described in the Researcher's Guide:

  • Research Grants
  • Collaborative Research Opportunities Grants
  • Genomics Projects
  • Collaborative Health Research Projects
  • Strategic Project Grants
  • Research Network Grants
  • Collaborative Research and Development Grants
  • Industrial Research Chairs
  • New Faculty Support Grants
  • Technology Partnerships Program
  • Research Partnership Agreements with Canadian Government Departments and Agencies
  • Equipment Grants (including Major Equipment and Major Installations)
  • Major Facilities Access Grants
  • University Faculty Awards
  • International Opportunity Fund

  • Use these forms in conjunction with the Researcher's Guide. Before you complete the form, see the relevant sections of the guide for information about eligibility criteria, selection criteria, and application deadlines.

  • If you are applying for more than one type of support, complete a separate application for each.

Completing Part I of the Personal Data Form

Person profile

The information contained in these fields was transferred from the New User Registration information screen. You may update the fields as needed.

Name

If you have changed your name since you last applied for support from NSERC, enter your previous name in the appropriate field.

Personal identification number (PIN)

All NSERC applicants have been, or will be, given a PIN. If you have not previously applied to NSERC, or if you cannot remember your PIN, leave that field blank.

Gender and language capability

In these fields, you should provide, on a voluntary basis only, information on your gender and on your language capability.

Address

Complete this section:
  1. if your primary place of employment is not with a Canadian university, e.g., industry, government, non-Canadian university, etc., or
  2. if you are a Canadian university researcher on sabbatical leave. Enter your temporary address here as well as start and end dates for your sabbatical leave.

Academic background

Include only current and/or completed degree programs. Use the section "other" for any additional degree.

Current employment

Enter your primary place of employment in this section. If applicable, enter your Canadian academic position if it is different from your primary place of employment.

If you have not taken up your position at the time of application, indicate in this section the university where you have been offered a position or where you will hold the grant.

Professional experience

List your academic and professional work experience, including administrative appointments. Any information that you have entered on the "Current Employment" page will be automatically entered on the printed version of the form and should not be repeated here.

Area(s) of expertise

Select the appropriate code(s) from the code tables displayed beside this field.

Highly qualified personnel

Indicate the number of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows currently supervised or co-supervised.

Research Support

List all sources of support held in the past four (4) years, currently held, or applied for, as an applicant or as a co-applicant (including NSERC grants and university start-up funds).

Eligibility (Appendix B)

Complete Appendix B if you are an applicant or co-applicant who does not hold a tenured, tenure-track or life-time professor emeritus position at a Canadian university at the time of application. The information you provide must be for the position you will hold at the time the grant is awarded. If you are not currently in that position, you must have a written offer. You may append any relevant information. Consult the
Researcher's Guide for eligibility criteria (sections 1.1A and 1.1B).

Description of applicant's activities (Appendix C)

Complete this section:

  1. if you hold an academic appointment at a Canadian university but are not a full, an associate or an assistant professor; or
  2. if you hold a part-time academic appointment at a Canadian university.

This would include applicants or co-applicants holding an adjunct professor or a professor emeritus position.

Appendix C must be signed by the employer at your main place of employment. If you do not hold a position outside the university, your department head must sign Appendix C.

Completing Part II of the Personal Data Form

Part II of the Personal Data Form is "free form" and should be completed using your own word processing tools and printed on regular white paper. Provide the requested information according to the guidelines and format outlined in the General Instructions accompanying Form 100.
