___________________________________________________________________ Five Straightforward Steps to Prepare an Index for an Edited Work 1. Have your contributors develop a list of key words or key ideas for their chapter/paper Contributors should concentrate on a list of key words and idea ideas in the subheadings of the chapter/paper. 2. Contributors should put the key term list on a diskette and save it as an ASCII text file with chapters/paper page numbers cited to each entry. 3. When you send the final camera-ready manuscript to us for production, we will send you a photocopy of the final manuscript with all the correct page numbers. 4. Combine all the ASCII files of key terms into one file and open them up in your word processor. Use the sort feature on the word processor to sort the key terms alphabetically. Double column the sorted list. Format the double columns into the same text area used in the style files for the chapter/papers--4 3/4 inches x 8 inches or 12 cm x 20 cm. 5. Print out a laser proof and send it to us. The index is done! *Note: As smaller typeface is typically used for the index--usually 9 point.
