Tutorial

From time to time I may have to miss a lecture, or it may be helpful to have an extra time slot for discussing topics in the lectures where there may be difficulties. I shall announce in class when these are to take place.

There will be office hours from 13 December to 17 December.
  1. Berkant will be available from 10am to noon on 16 December and 17 December.
  2. Marshall will be available from 1 to 2pm every day from 13 December to 17 December.
  3. I shall be available from 4 to 5pm from 7 December to 10 December.

  4. Assignments

    The will be about six assignments for the course. Assignments are due on Fridays at the beginning of class. Late assignments will not be accepted unless discussed with the instructor in advance. Assignments will be returned in class on the Wednesday following their collection. The assignments are an integral part of the course and you are recommended very strongly indeed to attempt each question of each of them.

    Assignment 3. Due 22nd October at 10:31am.

    Assignment 4. Due 5 November at 10:31am.

    Assignment 5. Due 19 November at 10:31am.

    The solutions for an assignment will appear here a day or so after the assignment has been collected for marking. The solutions will occasionally contain additional information that is of interest. This will appear in the form of comments .

    Midterm Examination


    Miscellaneous items arising from the lectures or assignments

    1. An exact formula for the partition number $p(n)$s given in Notes on the Hardy-Ramanujan-Formula for p(n)
    2. I mentioned the Jacobi Triple Product Identity in class, and the fact that certain congruences for the partition number may be deduced from it. The construction is given in the Course Notes. Fuller details are given in Notes on the Jacobi Triple Product Identity.
