ATT532 appeared in a 1987 paper by M. Padberg and G. Rinaldi. The data set consists of 532 cities located in the (continental) United States, and Padberg and Rinaldi write that they obtained the instance from Shen Lin of AT&T Bell Laboratories. This instance is now part of the TSPLIB.
