C&O 370 - Deterministic OR Models (FALL SEMESTER 1995)

Information related to the teaching activities of Professor Henry Wolkowicz is available. The material is related to the course taught in the FALL SEMESTER 1995 (with Prof (Chuck/Charles) Haff).

The course handout is available.

You can get help on GAMS in MC2048, 8:30-12 and 1-4:30 from Colin Cambpell, campbell@dcs1. There is also a uw.gams newsgroup and a uw.co.co370 newsgroup. There is an online library of sample gams programs. I have made many of these, as well as some new ones, available here. (In particular, you can see the two files on the simple LP discussed in class; see files twovar.gms, twovar2.gms.)

Besides using GAMS, there is the new Optimization Technology Center. The center's mission is to make potential users in industry, government, and academia aware of how optimization techniques can aid their work, and to make the latest techniques widely available. Center products are designed to help at each stage of problem solving, from modeling real-world applications through solving the mathematical problem to interpreting the results. You may want to look at some case studies.

Assignments, Midterm, Solutions, and Marks

Following are assignments, the midterm, and solution files.

The midterm will be held Monday, Nov 6, 7-9PM, in rooms MC 4040, 4041, 4042. If there is a conflict with the time, then the exam can be taken Monday, Nov 6, 5-7PM, in room MC 4063.

You can run the matlab files automatically if you have lpmovie in your home directory. The tar file lpmovie.tar.Z contains all the files you need to run the solution matlab files. This file is available in the same directory as the solution files. (You can use the command: tar xvf lpmovie.tar) Alternatively, the files are available on the undergrad.math machines, in the /u2/co350 and /u3/co370 accounts.
