Web Clicker Information

The iclicker WebClicker service allows a student to use a web browser to vote online in a clicker class alongside students voting with the usual white clicker. It can answer the same multiple-choice and short-answer questions as other iClickers.

Students purchase and use a subscription account instead of a clicker to vote in class. Before paying for an account check that your clicker class is enabled to use WebClicker. Ask your professor. WebClicker is disabled by default.

To enable use of WebClicker in a course, professors have to create a free course account on the iClicker web site to allow students to vote through the iClicker servers.

Prices

WebClicker is purchased online by students (see the purchase page above) using a credit card. The UW textbook store does not sell WebClicker accounts.

Subscription Term Price
14-day trial free
180-day subscription $10.00
1-year subscription (365 days) $16.00
2-year subscription (730 days) $22.00
4-year subscription (1460 days) $32.00

A white clicker bought at the UW textbook store costs $40 for the multiple-choice 5 button clicker and $45 for the LCD+extra button clicker, taxes not included. These physical clickers can be sold back to the textbook store for $20 any time in the future.

How students create a WebClicker account

How students use a WebClicker account

Each time you log into your free WebClicker account you will be asked to upgrade to a paid account. You can decline and click the Upgrade Later button, but if you use the WebClicker account beyond the free 14 day trial period you will need to supply credit card information to purchase a subscription. This is the only time personal information is required.

Once you have completed the WebClicker initialization, you can vote in class through your web browser at this site:

https://webclicker.iclicker.com

At the start of a clicker class, login with your WebClicker username and password. Select your instructor's name from the list shown to enter your online clicker class. Your instructor has to allow online voting by making this online class first, so if you don't see you class name please get in touch with your instructor to check whether or not online voting will be used for your course.

When a clicker question is asked in class, the A-E selection buttons in your browser window will become active. Pressing a button will register a vote on the instructor's computer just as if you had voted in class. Change your mind and vote as often as you wish while the question is open. The system will remember the most recent vote.

If you have any questions or have trouble with the WebClicker system, please get in touch with me.

WebClicker ID registration

As a WebClicker user, register your web>clicker ID at the University of Waterloo Clicker Registration page when requested to register by your instructor.

How instructors enable a WebClicker course

A clicker course has to be enabled for WebClicker use by students. This is done by visiting the instructor WebClicker configuration file download page and following the instructions on that page to download a small XML text file into your iclicker folder.

Once properly placed, the file will enable the WebClicker button in the first page of the settings area of your clicker course when you run the iClicker program and enter the settings area.

The settings WebClicker button takes you to a page that asks for information to make an online voting page for your clicker class. The name of this online page will be the name of your clicker course in the iClicker software.

Give your name, email, and zip code (N2L 3G1 for UW). Then select UW from the pull-down menu, and make up a password. Finally, click the allow webclickers button.

Now when you ask for clicker votes in class, students with WebClicker accounts can vote through their browser.
