Implementing Active Learning Activities
Thursday, May 26, 2005, 12:00 - 1:30 p.m.
Math and Computer Building, room 5158
Facilitator: Genevihve Desmarais, TRACE
Most of us have heard of the benefits of active learning, but we may feel
unprepared to develop and implement such activities. Nonetheless, active
learning activities can be a great way to boost student interest and,
through increased engagement, enhance information retention as well as
student learning in general. During this interactive workshop, you will
learn about activities that can be incorporated into the classroom, and
adaptation of these activities for various class sizes will be
addressed. The goal of this workshop will be to help you develop a larger
repertoire of activities to draw from when teaching, and to give you an
opportunity to practice some of the activities presented.
The workshop is open to all instructors and graduate students at UW. It
can be counted toward the Certificate in University Teaching if a workshop
response paper is submitted and accepted. Juice will be provided.
