Getting Started with UW-ACE
Tuesday, January 10th 1:30 - 3:30 pm
Wednesday, January 18th 9:30 - 11:30 am
This is a hands-on session where we will explore some of the more
commonly used UW-ACE functionality, including: creating/uploading a
course syllabus; creating and marking a drop box; creating and using a
discussion forum, using milestones to update calendar items, and
tailoring your course and work environment.
Introduction to UW-ACE Instructional Resources
Wednesday, January 11th 9:30 - 11:30 am
Wednesday, January 18th 1:30 - 3:30 pm
The hands-on session is designed to provide an introduction to "UW-ACE
Instructional Resources", a repository of online teaching and learning
resources available to all instructors using UW-ACE in their courses.
It will include an overview of the types of resources in the
repository, as well as a practical "how to" session, demonstrating how
instructors can import items from the repository into their courses.
Using the Action Editor: Level I
Thursday, January 12th 1:30 - 3:30 pm
Tuesday, January 24th 1:30 - 3:30 pm
The ANGEL Action Editor is an advanced tool that allows you to define
actions to be taken when certain events and conditions occur. For
example, an action could be defined to allow a student to gain access
to previously locked material (action) after the submission of a quiz
(event), only if their quiz grade is above 80% (condition). This
session will explore a number of common examples which will be worked
through via hands-on activities.
Creating Quizzes in UW-ACE
Wednesday, January 25th 9:30 - 11:30 pm
A detailed look at quiz creation, multiple choice, true-false, short
answer, essay etc. This session will also cover uploading of question
banks and existing quizzes, as well as how to provide feedback to
students taking the quiz/exam. Adding quiz results to the Course
Gradebook will also be examined.

equation editor.
Lecturing with PowerPoint
Wed, December 7 9:30 am - 11:30 am MC1050

as simulations or animations to help support student learning.
You can also place your PowerPoint presentations on the web so
that your students can review them at a later date. This
hands-on course will cover basic design and delivery principles
of lecturing with PowerPoint, including technical details on
how to use the tool.
Concept Mapping with CMap
Thu, December 8 9:30 am - 11:30 am MC1050

Do you have a lot of great ideas, but sometimes find it
difficult to express them within the confines of prose? You
should try concept mapping! Chances are you already create
concept maps with pen and paper.
Come to this course to learn CMap, a program for creating
concept maps, and which is free for academic use. You will find
yourself using CMap to collect your thoughts and to organize
and/or present ideas in talks, lectures, papers, etc.
Concept maps made with CMap can published to the Web for
sharing with others, and can include hyperlinks to notes,
graphics and other Web pages.
