"UW-ACE Survey Results: Students' Experiences of Using Technology in
  Learning"

Presenters: Vivian Schoner and Katrina Strampel

Students at the University of Waterloo increasingly encounter the
blended learning setting classrooms where traditional teaching and
learning practices are blended with technology that is used both as a
tool for teaching and learning, and also as the medium of instruction.
Questions arise about the value to students and instructors of using
blended learning practices in the classroom. These concern both the
pedagogical and technological viability of these practices.

In this presentation we first describe the UW-ACE survey instrument used
to collect information on five different dimensions of the pedagogical
and technological components of blended learning. Second, we present
results from both quantitative and qualitative assessments of the UW-ACE
learning experience from students across the disciplines. In brief,
students rated technology function and overall satisfaction with UW-ACE
positively. Results were mixed, however, on pedagogical experiences
concerning online learning activities, collaborative learning and
instructor feedback. Finally we present an overview of student commentary
on the strengths and weaknesses of UW-ACE, the value of using technology
in learning and the value of the online collaborative learning
  experience.
