When we were in OHS, we didn't know because our parents didn't tell us. I learned much about my parents during the war from uncles and aunts who had survived Auschwitz. My uncles and aunts didn't tell their own children. The most details I learned from my mother's book. Here's something else. My wife's father was a flight surgeon in the US Army Air Force who set up some of the first field hospitals in France after D-Day. One of his jobs was to travel to liberated concentration camps to look US servicemen. He was at the liberation of Auschwitz. Two of my uncles and two aunts were liberated. My father-in-law never spoke about Auschwitz. He had a camera with him and he took gruesome photos of what he had seen. meir
