anectode: ---------------------------------------- Yes, it is surprising how many of us have such similar backgrounds ... totally amazing to me, and totally unknown while we were at OHS. So ... is this another typical story? 'a reunion in Israel' approx '90 I was going to a conference in Israel. My mother heard and decided to take advantage and go at the same time. Her brother had survived the war by escaping to Russia and there he met/married a Russian (non Jewish) woman. After the war was over they then escaped from Russia to Uruguay. Then Uruguay turned 'bad' for Jews and they escaped again to Israel. My mother and her brother Jacob had not seen each other since they were kids in Poland. We met on the 'mountain' in Tel Aviv at their house - for supper - four of us at the table. me (son), my mother, my uncle (brother), my aunt (sister in law) ... and we had to 'talk to each other' -mother and brother speak Polish as that is what they spoke as kids -mother and son (me) speak Yiddish as that is our language at home -son and uncle speak Yiddish as well -uncle and wife speak Spanish as that is what they spoke for years - Uruguay -mother and sister in law speak Russian as my mother survived in gulag -son and aunt had to speak Hebrew as I had learned enough Hebrew four people and we had to use FIVE languages .... and laughing all the time a 'real Jewish experience' so .... others with similar experiences?
