Scholarships for students entering first year

The Faculty of Mathematics has an extensive scholarship program for students entering first year

As an applicant to a full-time honours program in the Faculty of Mathematics (excluding Software Engineering; Computing and Financial Management), you are eligible for the following entrance scholarships:

  • Faculty of Mathematics Entrance Scholarships - all applicants who write the Euclid Contest are eligible, see below
  • Faculty of Mathematics National Scholarships - only students who submit an application are eligible, see below
  • University of Waterloo President's Scholarships

Entrance Scholarships

The Faculty of Mathematics awards 150 entrance scholarships in values of

  • $8,000 over four years
  • $5,000 over four years
  • $2,000 for one year
  • $1,000 for one year

You will automatically be considered for an entrance scholarship provided

  • you are currently a high school student
  • you are an applicant to any one of the programs offered in the Faculty of Mathematics (excluding Software Engineering; Computing and Financial Management)
  • you write the Euclid Mathematics Contest on April 7, 2010
  • you submit an Admission Information Form

Unless stated otherwise, entrance scholarships are on-going provided the recipient maintains an 80% overall average while taking 5 courses each academic term.

National Scholarships

The University of Waterloo, in conjunction with our generous sponsors, is pleased to offer 13 National Scholarships, in values of $14,000 to $25,000 over four years, to exceptional students entering first year in the Faculty of Mathe matics.

National Scholarships are for applicants to any of the Faculty of Mathematics programs (excluding Software Engineering; Computing and Financial Management).

To be considered for a National Scholarship, you must complete and submit the 2010 National Scholarship Application postmarked on or before February 8, 2010. THE 2010 NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION WILL BE AVAILABLE IN DECEMBER 2009. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE.

Criteria

You are eligible for a National Scholarship if you have the following attributes:

  • Outstanding scholastic standing
  • Grasp of the broader view of technology - its applications and significance
  • Entrepreneurial or pioneering spirit with demonstrated entrepreneurial activities
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Energetic, curious

On the application you'll be asked to provide

  • a list of awards and achievements
  • the results from recent competitions in which you have participated
  • a list of extracurricular activities, employment, leadership experience

You'll be asked to include with your completed application

  • your most recent high school transcripts
  • statement of support (not to exceed one page) from a mathematics or computer science teacher commenting on your academic achievements and potential
  • statement (not to exceed one page) by the principal (or designate) describing your contributions to your school

Applicants selected to receive a 2008 National Scholarship will be notified by May 1, 2010.
