About Us

Dean's Message:

Congratulations to editorial board members Edgar A. Bering IV (Chair), Eshan Wagh and Frank Ban for their recent completion of a very successful Volume 1 of The Waterloo Mathematics Review.  The eleven papers published in three issues of this student publication have ranged in topic from mathematical biology to algebraic combinatorics with authors from Waterloo, Ottawa, Simon Fraser and McMaster.

We’re excited that applications to Waterloo Math undergraduate programs are up yet again this year, and look forward to welcoming another exceptional incoming class in September.

I’d like to recognize some prominent statisticians making news recently.  Congratulations to Don Fraser (DMath 1992), named Officer of the Order of Canada  for his contributions to the advancement of statistical science in Canada.  We welcome Sallie Ann Keller to her new post as Waterloo’s Vice President Academic and Provost. Our own Wayne Oldford was on the evening news recently to explain odds of winning the lottery.

Jeff Orchard will give a free public lecture on how computer science is helping to explain how the brain works.  It will be held February 22nd at 7pm in the Math 3 lecture theatre, and followed by a reception.  Everyone is welcome!

Ian
