Euclid Mathematics Contest

Your Euclid Contest results will be used in scholarship decisions and may be used in admission decisions

Why participate in the Euclid Contest?

  • to challenge yourself and your problem solving skills
  • to prepare for university studies
  • to demonstrate that you have sufficient mathematical background to enter our programs, especially useful in cases where we may be unfamiliar with an education system and unable to assess an applicant's mathematical background
  • to be eligible for an entrance scholarship

Register online for the Euclid Contest

  • If you're currently attending an Ontario high school, find out about writing the Euclid Contest in your school from one of your mathematics teachers.
  • If you're an Ontario high school mathematics teacher, please visit the Euclid Contest website for information about registering your students for the contest.
  • If you've completed university-level math beyond the OAC equivalent level, you're not eligible to write the Euclid Contest.

Prepare for the Euclid Contest

There are practical resources to help you prepare for the Euclid Contest. Students who take advantage of these resources not only do better on the Euclid Contest but also in first-year studies.

  • Euclid e-Workshop - this free web resource gives you the opportunity to practice Euclid-style problems weekly
  • past contests - get ready for the Euclid Contest using previous years' Euclid Contests - download past contests for free
  • Euclid-prep guide - get this workbook, Mathematics Resource Manual for High School Students and Undergraduate Studies ($20.00), online or pick up a copy when you come to campus

Canadian Computing Competition

It is recommended that applicants to Bioinformatics and Computer Science write the Canadian Computing Competition, though it is not a requirement for admission. The aim of the competition is to provide students with an opportunity to test their ability in designing and understanding algorithms, as well as in programming.

For more information, visit the Canadian Computing Competition website.

Other Mathematics Contests

There are a number of other Mathematics contests that students in junior and senior grades can participate in. The Pascal, Cayley, and Fermat Contests, the Euclid Contest and the Gauss Contest are a few of them.
